Well my brother, hbc member firstblood and I had an amazing season this year in Kamloops hunting 3-19A and 3-19B. All of the hunting was done within 26km as the crow flies from our house near, Thompson Rivers University, where we are both students. Being students we had ridiculous amounts of time to hunt so we spent most of our hours outside of class in the bush hunting or fishing once we had ice on November 24. We keep a detailed log of all of our hunts and fishing trips and as of today we have harvested 128 waterfowl, upland, and big game species all from within those 26km. as students we are always looking for ways to save money so we live entirely off the land for proteins, all limits were always followed and possession limits always kept in check, keeping in mind there are 2 persons limits and possession limits at work here. as for Big game a moose 2 deer and a bear then small game is made up of lots of rabbits, grouse, ducks, coots, geese, coyotes you name it we hunt it.

guns used for the season for ducks are beretta 12 gauges, and a side by side 10 gauge with 32" barrels and weights 13 pounds haha its a blast
for upland, .22, and the 12 gauges
for big game the .44 ranch hand and 30-06 semi auto Remington 740

Lets start on opening day sept 10 before my 730am class we had scouted 5 duck ponds and found one that held tons of ducks every morning

Big game

Started with the spring bear taken by firstblood called this guy into 5 yards, was the 3rd bear to come to the call but he took this one which was what he was looking for a nice colour phase bear
http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s615/SteelpulseFishn/IMG_00000191_zps918a5db8.jpg (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/SteelpulseFishn/media/IMG_00000191_zps918a5db8.jpg.html)

then my october LEH bull from 3-19A after 12 days of hunting finally called him into 30 yards on the back side of greenstone shot him 2.5km from the car and 10 hours later got him out

Please tell me you didn't pressure wash the moose meat. If so I would recommend against it in the future.
The game bagged meat looked pretty clean leaning against your vehicle. The most important thing to do at that point would be to get it hung and let the outer surface of the meat dry. Trim that part off when butchering and voila; clean meat.

Not trying to be a dick or derail a good thread. I'm just offering a little friendly advise.

Happy hunting fellas and thanks for posting.

Looks like a great season
Meat should last a winter but the memories of time spent with your Bro is what it's all about.
Furthering your education is a well doner but to me the knowledge you both have and continue to learn in the Outdoors will always be beneficial no matter where education takes you

I liked that picture of you and your borther sitting shooting ducks and you can see the shotshell in the air. Now that picture you should display in your university. Wear a shirt that says this is how I feed myself going to school. Eating wild game.
Do you ever go to school with blood still on your hands? And what are the comments?

well let me tell you, funnily enough on opening day for ducks, I actually rolled into class full camo, face paint on and blood on my hand, this, happened a couple times until the sun came up to late for us to get a quick jump shoot in and me to make it back in time, 18min pond to class

Great way to keep the cost down while going to school. Keep it fun and real. May have to give some consideration to getting your PHD and riding this out for a while. You would end up with a great education and a house full of racks and birds at the very least.

Nice job steelpulse, any water on that meat is not good, as it promotes bacteria growth. Try not to tell anybody there is game so close to kamloops, otherwise every body from Vancouver will be your new hunting partners next year! lol... when i was younger i ate every thing i could hunt or grow, made my own wine also! Now im married and the wife sends me shopping far too often!!!

Ya we debated whether or not to say that about the proximity, we decided it was awesome that it all happened that close and should say, for promotion of the sport and it's sweet, but we have faith that a lot of people have no idea what they are doing and stick to the roads, as well we would die before taking someone who is not our dad or one of 3 best friends where we go, usually the answer when someone asks us where we go is uhhhhhhhhh umm uhh over yonder that way and both point a different direction

Steelpulse
12-26-2013, 01:13 PM
And yes water is bad for the meat I do concur, it needed to be washed before I took to my butcher, gave it a rinse, was dried properly before was taken care of
