While driving to work this morning I saw a beaver that had been hit on the side of the road. It got me thinking that it would be nice to have the pelt (as the meat would probably be bad seeing as I have no idea how long it had been on the side of the road). I have tried to doing some searches to see if it is lawful to pick up the beaver to keep his pelt, but I haven't had much luck aside from the information about trappers being able to pick up road kill for use in traps.

Any information on the subject would be great for in the future, as when I was going home this afternoon the beaver was already gone.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

You need to contact the wildlife office nearest you and seek a permit. While the prices may be out of line as this list is a few years old. You get an idea as to how much it may cost.

The Law is wired at times a found a set of antlers up in the mountains reported them to the main branch they told me that if its under the $200.00 dollar mark they are not interested you can keep them .
I found a set of Sheep horns a few years back I reported the horns to management they took them and said we would get back to you latter..

The wildlife branch did get back to me about two weeks latter and said we will give you a permit to fill out for these horns they put a value on them at 100.00  so the antlers where lawful to keep because they where values under the $200.00 dollar mark and the sheep horns where not and they where valued under the $200.00 dollar mark  my thoughts are its who you talk to some will have different thoughts it would be nice to see that they the management ,CO are all on the same page..

Just even try to get hold of a C.O. in hunting season.I saw a nice buck get hit in the head by a truck this fall,I wanted to salvage the meat but absolutely COULD NOT get a CO on the phone.I tried all different numbers.A perfectly good 100 pounds of meat went to waste.
I should have just loaded it up and took it home. But,Hey,then they would have showed up and shit all down my neck.

A friend hit a nice whitetail a few years ago. Lots of good meat still on the deer and a nice rack. CO let hit cut a tag for it. Must have felt bad as the car was a mess!
