Yawn.. Too many pics to go through. I don't want to strain my scrolling finger.. Can you just post up a short version with the animals you killed and what they scored?

Joking, of course! :-D Absolutely amazing photography, Dana. Thanks for taking the time to share your passion and family pursuits with us mere mortals. There are so many awesome shots in there, it's impossible to pick a favourite.

I wish you all the best over the holidays and throughout 2014. Thanks for your consistently exceptional contributions to HBC.

HaHaHa! Merry Christmas and a Happy 2014 right back at you Coach. Looking forward to see a My 2014 thread from you in the new year. You certainly saw way more animals die this past year than I did. Maybe Jelvis is right and I've lost the touch. I'm nothing more than a Neature freak with a camera. ;)

How do you like the Nikon Dana? I've been looking awhile, leaning towards one

I really like it for scenery pics. Much more clarity than my Olympus. The smallest lens is also great for close up pics. I would like to get the telephoto lens for it so I could use it for wildlife videography, as the HD video is impressive.

Which nikon 1 is it exactly? There are a bunch of models.

dana

It is the J1. The latest model is the J3.

Will any of the Nikon lenses fit on it? or just the Nikkor 1?

dana
12-27-2013, 10:08 PM
Just the Nikkor 1 lenses as far as I understand. Gotta love camera companies nowadays. You get a new one and within 6 months it is discontinued and a new model is out already. The circle continues on and on.

After doing a bunch of research this morning, you can get an adapter thats around the $250 range that will let you use any of the Nikon lenses. Im stuck between the Nikon 1 and the Canon eos-m.

dana
12-28-2013, 03:45 PM
Knock,
That's good to know. My Olympus is held together with duct tape so I have to make the plunge into another camera soon. Being able to get an adaptor for the Nikon and getting into a telephoto might be an option. Although the mega zoom point and shoots are getting bigger and bigger now. The latest models are 60x optical zoom. Bloody crazy how far and fast the technology is going.

well, i pulled the trigger on a Canon EOS M today. It was a toss up between the nikon and the canon and i ended up going with the canon as sensor size is quite a bit bigger compared to the nikon. Its also 18mp compared to the Nikons 14. Just gotta get a lense adapter now! I cant get over how small these mirrorless cameras are!

Knock a d Dana. I have the eos m and use it with my big canon lenses They are discontinuing the eos m and will soon be coming out with a newer modle to rival the j1. A few problems is an extremely slow focus. Make sure to download the update from canon as it does improve the focus speed a bit. Still relatively slow but better. Takes great quality shots. Raw function is nice to have for post processing. Great to use with a big telephoto in the pack.

Also finding the adapter for the eos m is going to be difficult. When I was searching back in July the only place I could find one was Henry's or b and h photo.

there are a couple floating around town so that wont be that hard to get one. Just trying to figure out what zoom lens i want to go with. Im going to pick up the 22mm pancake and the 18-55 that it comes with isnt to bad for every day shooting but i want a good telephoto lens that wont break the bank. This is just something to take pictures of all my hobbies with, so i dont want to drop a ton of money into multiple lenses. Any tips for what you guys are using for a nice telephoto lens?

shallowH2O
12-31-2013, 07:28 PM
I'd go 70-200 with the smaller sensor it would equate to around a 340mm. More than enough for hobbies

As always some great pictures from you. You have got to have the best picture posts on here. Would it be fair to say you spend as much or more time behind the lense than the rifle scope? You seem to enjoy it as it sure shows in your photos. Thanks again enjoyed it.

Thanks. The advantage to shooting with a camera is there is no closed seasons and no bag limits. It certainly keeps me entertained in and out of season. Is a very good way to keep the eyes keen and practice many of the fine arts of hunting, such as stalking.
