Headed to the lake Friday to try for some cutthroat, couldn't round up a partner but went solo anyways. Fished Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and had some spectacular action. Hooked into 10 on Friday and landed 6, the 2 biggest being 20" and 21". Not the greatest weather, mixed snow and rain and a light but cold south east wind. Saw a small herd of elk including a small bull on the beach.

Eager to get out on Saturday, I was up early and gear in the water by 7 am. First fish on in ten or fifteen minutes, a nice fat 22 incher, and then things got pretty crazy. Landed 4 fish before 8:00, all over 20". By 2:00 I had hooked 15 and landed 12, 9 over 20" including a pair of 22s and a 24"er. And it was a spectacular day for weather; mild, calm, and a very light mist periodically, and not another boat in sight! Chomping at the bit to get back up there now...

I'm going to have to get out on the water more in the off-season. I say that every year but this has inspired me!

Nice to see the Cowichan CT fishery is on the mend. Lots of Lamprey?

Learn something every day. Are the females does or hens?

Most of them have some healed over scars but nothing fresh. Pretty unusual in that many fish to not land one with a lamprey still attached actually. I forgot to note also that I saw more coho than I have ever seen in the lake before. Literally I would estimate close to 100 that I saw swimming around the mouth of Nixon Creek alone! Hopefully a good sign of overall ocean survival.

Definitely. In my experience all of the fish around 24" and bigger have been bucks.
