Took me awhile since the goat hunt in September to get this on HBC, busy with family, hunting etc..anyways these are pics from my first goat hunt. I got the LEH in region 3, and because of family etc only had one full day to hunt em lol. Anyways glad I train(d) my ass off cause it ain't for the faint of heart. Goat hunting is definitely a blast and I can't wait to hunt em more in the future.
So my bro came with me, our day started first light, we ascended up the mountain for 6 and half hours til we got to goat lookin territory and we started glassin..we glassed, ate lunch and enjoyed the view for about 2 hours, saw a mule deer that wouldn't reveal it's head to know if it was a buck er not. Then, I changed position and started glassing a different mountain face and within literally 10 seconds noticed a goat a good distance away on a cliff. We took a couple pics through the binos below. We then made our way toward the goat, making our way along steep terrain that had extremely thick bush most of the way. We were literally crawling on our hands and knees to make it through the thick bush alot of the way, and having our game packs on with sleeping bags etc didn't help! Took us 3 and half hours to make it the mile or so from where we saw him to where he was. By the time we got there he was gone, and we made the mistake of not bringin enough water so we had to make it down to a stream one ridgeline below us. We then realized due to the terrain that there was nowhere for us to even setup camp, so we followed the creek all the way down to the bottom of the mountain where we started. All in all it was good 13 and half hour hike/hunt day, and it was a blast. Even though we didn't bag a goat, we saw one and put a stalk on so that's a successful hunt to me.
