What size shot would be best for coyotes? I want to try yote hunting in a friends field which is in a shot only zone. I have a rabbit squeal, a 12 ga. And some freezer burnt salmon and duck, so looks like Christmas is gonna be fun

4 Buck seems to be a pretty popular size shot.

Geez Gatehouse, check the regs. The new rules say #1 Buck or larger!!! The bas**rds changed it the year after I bought my #4 Buck mould. #4 buck worked awesome but some protard in Victoria obviously doesn't have a clue.

Hmm, just checked and yes they specify #1 or larger for coyote. Makes no sense to me. Then again, most of the weapons restrictions don't make much sense. :)

that number 1 or larger law is just dumb. when I was a kid I used lead BBs and when I discovered 4 buck I never looked back. typical government....changing laws to justify their jobs....and I work in municipal gov, look at me throwing stones in a glass house:-D

Yeah I wouldn't fancy my chances with a 22 Hornet against a bull moose!

I wonder if it's a typo?

Did you use a fox pro? I just have a mouth call so we will see how that goes. Hopefully I can entice the pack in before dark. Usually don't hear them until after shooting light.

get the federal copper plated with the flightcontrol wad. It really does work and will extend your range considerably.

The biggest and most obvious question here is at what range do you wanna kill them at? I've whacked tons of Yotes over the years with whatever shot was in the tube at that moment as they've mostly be in a flushed or last second encounter. I will say that inside 35-40 yards you whack them in the engine room with anything from a 12G you'll flippem right over and if they ain't stone cold dead they sure as hell wish they were! K

Well that's the $100 question right there f350! This is going to be my first attempt at coyotes so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm quite certain the pack I'm after has little to no hunting pressure so I can't guess as to how spooky they'll be although I have seen a big one sniffing around by the road in broad daylight. Either way it should be a lot of fun.

I probably don't need to mention this but I will anyways. Pattern your shotgun with the buckshot load. A lot of times a modified choke is better than full. It is also amazing how far off some shoot with buckshot and a shotguns sights.
