Been seeing this coyote since he was a pup and tried for 2 years to get him. Seen him in the field many time, couple times near the house and around the farm. Have lost two great family cats from these pricks so today was his last day.....

in the highlands of Cape Breton Nova Scotia they have yotes that have been proven by science to be a yote wolf hi bred they hunt in packs and killed a young woman there. First yote death by a person ever.

What makes you think that is a coyote hybrid? Was his mother a coyote?

Yes region 2-8 in pitt meadows. I know there is wolves up top near the upper pitt and heard them howl before the lake so maybe cross bred with one?. I dunno about the other local dogs i know most of the farm dogs around here and no husky

I mean by hybrid because its not a true typical coyote. The markings and color is not common to a coyote and have seen any missing dog posters down the road

There was a guy in 150 Mile house who had sled dogs that he was hoarding, at peak populations he had over 300 dogs, all tied to dog houses. The coyotes would come down and breed his dogs, so a good chunk of his dogs were coydogs. They looked just like this coydog you shot.

are there any stipulations regarding killing a wolf or coyote that's not pure?
if this "it" then bred this year with another dog, then it's offspring are more dog than coyote.

A dog will travel a long way if they wind a bitch in heat. I remember someone posting a pic of a coydog that was taken down by the PM airport I think. Not saying its from the same litter but it is happening

Good job. Probably not worth much on the fur market but would be a neat conversation piece if tanned.

That's gotta be from Pitt meadows maple ridge area. I see them like that often. Heard we have our own strain of coyotes that look like that

There is a pack of them like that by the Pitt meadows airport and one that hangs out by planet ice in maple ridge. Cool looking dogs

Yup... soon as I saw that pic I knew if was from ridge meadows.... I see them fairly often... am envious of your sweet kill.... would love to nail one. I too have heard that supposedly there is a strain mixed with dog that has established a good population here.

Here's s short clip I took of one one day... watched this guy munch down a number of crunchy rodents....

And sorry about the cats... I too lost one of mine to damn yotes in pitt meadows.

save the skull and jaw bone , it is one way to ID a hybrid . I wonder how many deer fawns he got over the years .... and how many rats and mice .

I know of 2 that were trapped in Pitt meadows just like yours.

I also trapped one similar but not as dark in mission last winter.

Some say cross breed others say just a genetic thing to the area. I don't know the real answer but the MOE is aware of them

I skinned in out while to get it tanned to hang in the house. Left the skull inside for the taxidermy to do all the flipping and will ask for the skull back and gonna see if the CO wants to get it tested and i can get some info about it

I'd be really interested to see if they really are hybrids or just some type of genetic color phase. Either way, very cool lookin dog.

crazy. makes sense with what i seen in pitt meadows back in 2007. seen 4 huge coyotes packed up, in the cranberry fields, thought they were maybe wolves, but didnt make sense. but way to big for normal coyotes

Just like Albinos darker or black color black color phases in almost all species, coyotes are no exception. As far as fur goes they are not worth that much as there is never enough of them to make a lot at auction. You are better off to have him tanned or mounted for yourself.....nice dog, well done!!!

I've talked extensively /w the local CO in person about Langley's yote epidemic a few years ago. He stated then that nearly all of them are intertwined with genetics of local pet stock.

Seen 1 of these today at the pitt meadows airport he constantly pushes the ducks and geese out of the feild by the works yard the one is very large and she comes out daily with a regular looking coyote with her.
