Got out for a quick morning shoot amid a localized snow storm. The water was froze but ducks had been landing in the field to feed. Setup with a few field deeks and 2 robos just using the local cover. I t was all over in about an hour or so and I was back home drinking coffee gotta love the Xmas spirit of the duck gods

That's a nice hours shoot Foxton. The dog looks like he's wondering why it was over so quick.

Very nice! What do you do when hunting in the very low minus temps in relation to your dogs, especially when they're retrieving in water? I used to hunt in the Harrison river system late in the year where the only open water was fast moving. It was usually quite windy as well, and as soon as my dog came out of the water he would turn white from the forming ice. I brought along an old sleeping bag to wrap him in while he was on land, mostly to protect him from the wind chill factor, but also to allow his body temp to re-build. He was an 'outside' dog, never living in the house, and definitely not a pansey, but he would shiver and shake uncontrollably if not for the blanket.

My dogs are outside/inside dogs when she ugly out I take a Veri 200 no door, it is wrapped in an old quilt with a camo tarp around it. It is really to small for my goldens and lab but the dogs will nest in it and when you put your hand inside its very comfortable. They shiver a bit but ar never really cold. as soon as they see the guns come up they are out and marking. Works really well for me and I actuall incorporate it into training sessions.

Ain't that a fact, I got there a bit late and after I set up was walking back to the fence line when a drake dive bombed me just toping the hedge row it was him or me lol. I was actually going for an all greenhead limit but when I squeezed on the 5th drake the suzie ducked behind him and I pulled a fluke double with I shot so when the next pair came in (drake and hen) I said what the hell dumped them both and headed for the barn. All shots were 20 yds or less with my good old M12, Polychoke set between IC and Mod using 2.75 #4s

Nice shoot mate, good looking Spaniel do you use it much for ducks? Mine have proved to be good waterfowl dogs over the years, although they do prefer to be out finding the action rather than waiting for it to come to them. I was just curious how many other Spaniel fanciers use their dogs in the blind?
