For you guys running dogs... You think it's possible to train a dog to find sheds like they train dogs or pigs to find truffles?
Just a thought... anyone have a dog that does it? much success?

do the antlers have much scent?
maybe shortly after they've dropped I guess.
you'd have to figure a way of getting the dog used to that scent somehow, and not just the scent of a deer.

A member posted a video of his dog finding a shed, and I watched a show that had a dog finding sheds. So yes.....

Antlers are bones and you know a dog can find a bone!
Seriously though, a buddy of mine has trained his lab. He brings back bones a fair bit too but he definitely brought back a few antlers.
http://www.sheddogtrainer.com/ Not that i'm into it but I read an article recently about shed hunting dogs and it linked to this sight. Seems to be quite possible.

I had a video of a guy in Alberta or Sask that had trained his dog to find sheds. The dog found lots too. A couple of years ago I gave it to a young fellow from north east of Edmonton.

The old guy on the show "mountain men" has a trained shed dog. Had a spot about them shed hunting on one of the episodes
I trained my chesapeake to find sheds, it was easy and he finds about the same as i do now
