A friend of mine sent me this video taken in Alaska by a resident. He travels 200 miles by foot, 500 miles by raft, and takes 6 weeks to hunt sheep, caribou, and moose. He also does a bit of fishing for grayling and salmon as well. Comes across grizz, wolf, and wolverine. Quite the experience. If I only had that kind of time...

The way life should be lived in my opinion. Who or what cons us into the 9 to 5 rat race routine anyway?

I think it was once Russia's and they bought it for a bag of string and some shiny pieces of metal.

basically what chuck said, i think the amount was something like 7 million dollars they paid to russia for it. we should trade toronto to the states to get it as a part of BC

IIRC, the actual cost was more to the tune of 80 million, but still a steal, even in that era. Everyone thought that AK was just useless wilderness, including the States. The main reason they bought it was for strategic reasons, ie. war. The hidden treasure of oil, gas and gold was just a surprise bonus. Canada benifitted from the deal as well, due to the construction of the Alcan highway in WW2.
I doubt a day goes by that the Russians don't regret that deal.

30-06, I agree that Alone in the Wilderness is a great movie. If any of you get the chance to watch it, do so...its about a guy named Dick Proenneke who retires to Alaska and builds everything he needs from the ground up. Quite the amazing story.

Rented the last trapper on pay per on express view one night and the only reason I watched the whole thing was because I paid for it. I would have rather gone to the dentist. Thats just my opinion though. Alone in the wilderness is great I watch it everytime it is on. Must be going 20 or 30 times now and it is never boring.

One of the forum guidelines also states that no illegal activities on this site. This includes pirated music or videos. The Americans bought it off Russians ....dirt cheap.
