Well, I was supposed to go on this one, but had to work...and now I am kinda thankful...Nice goat, but the risk was too high for me...

He shot this big billy at about 2:30 PM, a 460 yard shot with his Remington 700 BDL Ultramag, 175 grain long range x, then a 5 1/2 hour climb to get him, took til dark to locate him, roped up and crampons, a foot of fresh snow, and extremely treacherous.
He got terrible "rug" burn on both knees crawling through some tight scrub pine. He ended up staying the night roped up dealing with skinning it out by headlamp til 4am....sounds unfun lol. Tired him out so much that he bailed on another hunt, which is saying something for him....

You can tell him that's a beauty trophy. Should be an amazing hide too once it gets cleaned up. The most memorable hunts are always the toughest hunts. Sounds like an adventure.

It may be a BC B&C book billy, we will see....He does deserve it, he worked extremely hard for it...an it seems AA doesn't do easy very often lol. Although I believe he is finally resting a bit...amazingly strong man!

With a beard that powerful and majestic, he was probably out hunting abominables and decided to bull dog the goat off the mountain instead.

Not Dease area lol. You know how secretive these fellas are... He is going to get it aged soon, but he was thinking relatively young, due to the abundant feed where it lived...

I am amazed by the wonder of this unspeakably profound beast!

Truly one of the most gorgeous Goats I have ever even seen a picture of, let alone in person. By the sounds of things, the Hunt was surely a tough row to hoe!

I wish to congratulate your friend on what surely must've been a very intense Hunt. Indubitably, the Mount will be a true wonder to behold. Your firend is very lucky to be in a position to enjoy such a fine Mount. Simply getting the LEH win is fine luck indeed.... To say nothing of a hard earned and fabulous outcome to a great Hunt.

The old goat humper does it again.

Tell him he's gonna have to clean one of those grizz hides out of the deep freeze or one of those wolf hides out of the attic to make room for that thing.

So he got the goat green scored and aged, it is a 10 year old and green scored at 54", which would make it #26 from the top if it didn't shrink at all, but even if it shrinks a half inch, he would still rank #39....he lost a bit of tip on a tumble..or it would have scored higher.

So the final Boone and Crockett score on this big ol goat is 53 6/8 which makes it rank 32 in Boone and Crockett...but actually tied for 11th with a whole bunch of other goats that also measure 53 6/8...

It seems weird to me the way it gets ranked...if you have 21 goats that measure 53 6/8...which is the eleventh size on the ranking...it becomes first come first served in the rankings? Is this correct?

kennyj
01-14-2014, 08:06 AM
Sounds like its one of the 11th biggest goats ever shot. Amazing trophy! Thanks for posting the great photos and score.

Its tied for 32nd place score. However there are 31 goats measure that are bigger then it. There are 7 goats in B&C that measure the same size. All of those goats measure 53 6/8. Those ones do not place in front of behind that score. They are all tied for 32nd place. What you're not seeing is that there are 6 goats measuring 54 inches. And 8 at 54 2/8's. So on and so forth right up to the record at 56 6/8. Which was tied for first but may have been beaten if I remember correctly in the last year. So its not 11th at all its 32nd. And with a bigger goat being shot since this print, it will now be 33rd.

Still is one remarkable beast though!

Rackem
01-14-2014, 12:28 PM
Yes I said it was 32nd, but I was asking, if there were 21 goats the same size, how do they determine the ranking?

BiG Boar

Yes I said it was 32nd, but I was asking, if there were 21 goats the same size, how do they determine the ranking?

There are 2 goats in the current record book at #1, they tied at 56 6/8. There is no ranking difference, even though one had a gross score of almost an inch more!

So ahead of his goat are 31 goats with better scores.

2 goats tied at #1 spot
2 at the #3 spot
1 at the #5 spot
1 at the #6 spot
1 at the #7 spot
3 at the #8 spot
6 at the #11 spot
1 at the #17 spot
8 at the #18 spot

and so on and so on

So for example, take that last 8 goats tied at the #18 spot. If you count the number of goats ahead of it, you come up with the 18th biggest goat. They are all the same size exactly, so they are tied for that spot. In the record book, if there is a tie, like in his case, they are sorted by the year they were shot. If there were two of equal size shot in one year, then they are sorted alphabetically by last name of the owner
