What an idiot.
Wonder is COs can spank cops for being morons.
But it's Detroit you what else do you expect.

hopefully the deer was hit by a car and he put it out of its misery, but to just shoot it???

You can hear deer had a a broken leg. Most likely not the smartest way, but it look like a very busy road where worse could of happen. Shame too bad.

dragged a dead deer off the road a couple months ago, threw it down the embankment, turned around and 2 cop cars had pulled up watching me. Cop asked if I was the one who hit it, I said no. Almost laughed when he put his kevlar gloves on to "take a look"

Yup, someone in the video said that it's leg was just dangling and they would have to put it down... Likely hit.. in the interest of public safety and humanely dispatching the animal I would think they likely did the best thing.

guess it would have helped if I watched with sound.

I remember a CO doing this at the high school in Lake Cowichan. Wounded animal, suffering, likely to wander out onto the road and cause a bad accident. Better the deer than some moron driver swerving to avoid it and going head-on!

I fail to see why this was not necessary?

Multiple witnesses saying its leg was "dangling' and 'hanging off'

Its not moving. It clearly CANT move.

Would you rather he picked it up, tossed it into his car, and rushed it to the vet?

I guess I skipped that part.

I just don't get why he was trying to scare it with sirens and crawling the car up to it. If it had a broken and dangling leg just put it down already. no need for a lights and siren show.

Everything ended fine - the outstanding officers arrived safely at their homes after that frightening wild life encounter - and that - after all - is all that matters!!!

Well Ovis17, clearly the deer needed to be dispatched. all i would have done differently is use my cruiser to block the traffic from seeing me blow his brains out. But then again this was detroit so i guess they are used to seeing people get shot, why would a deer be any different. At least it might put food on the table for someone.
What would you have done DaveT?

Did the right thing, nice shooting.

I'm jealous... wish I could get that close to a deer to make that kind of shot.

Shot to the head is better than some stories you hear... you know. The stories about people driving over the deer's head a half dozen times to kill it, only to fail. So they try to use a shovel instead.

I'd rather go down to a 40s&w(not sure what the officers use down there) to the head, rather than a shovel or a vehicle.

That video gives a whole new meaning to the term "deer in the headlights".
I wonder why the deer would not move away.

What would you have done DaveT?

The witnesses didn't freak out...someone mentioned it was injured...they tried to scare it away and was obviously too injured to move...a humane shot to the head. Just more people jumping to un-informed judgement as usual on this site...

I'm pretty sure YOU started this thread by asking if the dispatching of the deer was really required despite it being severely injured. You are sure making sense here aren't you?
