I apologize for not posting any stories or pictures earlier but I have been pretty busy this fall. Anyway our season began this year with the drive to Watson Lake than a flight into the Cassiars to a area and lake we have never hunted before.

So we are just finished setting up camp and I already caught the first fish for dinner and a gunshot rings out turns out to be a fellow HBC member and his father bagging a Caribou they were camped at the far end of the lake. Than an hour later a horse string rolls in with a guide and his client. Honestly at this point I am thinking the area is a little to crowded for my taste. The guide assures me they are just here to meet a plane than they would be clearing out of the area. Well after two hours the guide and his client are still waiting in the rain so I lend him my sat phone so he can call in to confirm the plane is coming. He thanks me by giving us all the firewood they have with them which was super cool as we had none and there wasn't a tree for miles.
We than spent the next 6 days hiking and hunting seeing lots of game but just not being able to get anything on the ground. On the 7th suddenly there are Caribou everywhere and while following one herd we spot two bulls feeding we are pretty sure one is legal. The wife decides its my turn for a Caribou so I head off on the stalk while she sits with the dogs. I close the distance from 750 yards to 311 quietly crawl into shooting position confirm he is legal and bang and a flop. First kill for my new .270wsm, as luck would have it we are only 2km from camp and its all down hill. We hunt for another day trying to get the wife a bull than we call for the plane and fly into Watson than its 25 hours straight home with a 4 hour cat nap outside Fort Nelson.
For the gun geeks the new rifle is modified rem model 7 in .270wsm weighs 6lb 1oz scoped and loaded and was a joy to carry.

Well after retuning from the North I had to head off to work for 3 weeks and when I returned it was time to hunt Elk. So quick call to a buddy from Cranbrook we headed out in some god awful weather in one of the local valley's for the day. I was hoping to get him his first Elk but with a 6 point about to head over the hill I figured he would prefer half an Elk shot by me than no Elk. He is %100 meat hunter and was happy as a pig in the trough about the outcome. We managed to drag it down the mountain whole and load it into the truck which as always been a goal of mine to load an Elk complete in my truck. Sorry no field pics the weather was horrible. Than it was on the plane and back to work for a couple more weeks this working in hunting season sucks big time.

For gun geeks kimber Montana 300wsm 150 grain tsx 250 yards one shot and he dropped like a rock.

Amazing how many friends with empty freezers there are when you are having a bumper season. I have just enough room for a medium WT in my second freezer which the Grinder Princess tells me is the space for her WT. Something about wedding vows were we share freezer space:-D.

Wayne I have two large freezers though they are pretty full of vegetables and I gave half the Elk to one partner and half the Moose to a second so I still have a little room for a good whitetail.
