View Full Version : Wolftracker Success

The Dawg

Well, through the Wolftracker site, we found a rancher with some wolf issues, and she was kind enough to let the Dawg run free in her yard, as it were.

First one down, a young female, and more to come, we hope!

We have at least 3 more ranchers tee'd up for the winter, so we hope to get out and whack some more doggies!

Feel free to post any wolf/coyote kills and locations here!

Got this little girl up by Banshee Lake (Reg 3) while out deer hunting yesterday. Smacked her with my 270 w/130gr game king.
I gave her every opportunity to get away too, pulled the gun up from the front seat wrong, tried to put the magazine in backwards, binos were under stuff on my seat, etc.

She was coming toward my truck on the road, veered off as if to go into the bush, finally got my bino's up to see if I could spot her in the trees.....looked up and she was coming toward the truck again. I figure she's going to run right under my door and she veers into the sticks one more time about 10yds from the truck. I finally get the mag in the gun and get out of the truck. She's in a small reveen off the road heading away from me in a stop and go type action, then turns and comes back towards me, she stops for a second and I let her have it.

Good deal guys taking young females is a good thing. That's a half dozen less yote and a half dozen less wolf pups next spring. Big males look cool but this has more effect in getting numbers in check.

Usually only the alpha female in the pack breeds, but still, it's one less mouth to feed and one less critter killing moose and deer. Good work :)

No worries.

Would love to bag a Wolf. Do they smell as bad as Coyotes when you skin em?

Can't say from first hand experience, but my neighbour arrowed on e on opening day of elk season a few years back and he said they are 10 times stinkier than any coyote he has ever touched...

I know that thawing a snared, frozen one out on the floor of our old cabin for 3 days didn't win many Brownie points!
