My son, Cody, decided to pull the pin on the this buck on the last weekend of Oct. This was the second buck we saw in 2 months of hunting. Luckily we were 2 for 2 as my daughter shot the first buck we saw.

Awsome,
You sound like a good DAD to let them shoot their bucks before you get yours, maybe #3 has your name on it??
They say they save the best for last!

Congrats to Cody.

The body looks unusually long and heavy for a fork horned buck. Is it possible he's more than a yearling?

Times are tuff. The results of 5+ years of a wolf epidemic will do that. But of course many like Jelvis will believe I'm lying. If they want to venture here, they can see for themselves. The good ol' days are long gone. Hopefully, with the dogs moving south, we'll see a rebound in the next few years.

Naw, he's just a yearling. Was still hanging with momma and this year's siblings. Lots of good eats with very little competition means they can easily gain weight. The whitey I killed this past weekend was the same way. Just a 2 year old with body weight like a 5 year old.

that deer's got some good chin-whiskers.
almost as long as his head-gear.
a trophy all the same though, especially when it's hard just to find a deer with bone.

My friend was out deer hunting the other day and saw a wolf slinking away. He blew on his deer grunt and waited. Hearing a sound behind him he turned around to see a big black wolf loping towards him. He promptly dropped it at 15 yards. That's when the others took off - he managed to drop two more. Mighty fine shooting.

At any rate he, and everyone else I have spoken to, has mentioned that things are slow. I didn't bother posting my moose hunt from this year - last year we saw 24 moose and 6 white tail (4 bucks) in 5 days. This year only 1 moose in 7 days. Not including 1 at night on the way in. What we did see was tons of wolf sign and two wolves.

Slowest year in 10 years I have seen at my places, neighbor saw a wolf at the end of my driveway with a muskrat in its mouth. Thought wolves were scared of humans, also heard that a wolf was tagged down the road from my house last sunday.

They're like rabbits
