Not much of a story, looking for a moose this afternoon, walking in to a stiff breeze. We bumped into each other at 10 yards, he was to slow.

I always tell my hunters to carry their rifle in there hands, few listen. When you are in the bush as much as I am you get situations like todays. If I had my gun on my shoulder this wolf would have mad the great escape.
Learn to carry your rifle in your hands at all times and you will get to post more pictures, it is tough to post memories!

Nice! Neat color on that dog. That would be an interesting bump in at 10 yards. Good call on carrying your gun at all times.

Good job.Great story and great ending.Been hearing and reading too much about guys who saw a "pretty wolf " and didnt shoot it.Most of the areas I grew up hunting in have more and more wolf sign and less deer sign

Way to go!! Yes, I learned a long time ago to always carry my gun in my hands while hunting in close range. One bounce and they are gone...

Right on man..any tips for us newbie wolf hunters? Do they still reside high elevation when the snow gets deep? I'm guessing they come down a bit dependin on what the moose do...

wolves will always travel where it easiest, that being roads or snowmachine trails, or even cattle trails especially in deep snow. . If you can pattern there travel route then the next time you see the tracks heading that way they will normally come through the same places each time.

When trapping, your best bets are making your sets off well used trails or plowed roads.

Nice! Good going. What percentage would you consider are black from what you've observed? I've only seen 3 out of about a baker's dozen.

Stack em' up Billie Hill ... shot one over at gcreeks many moons ago about the same colour.
Had two others run by me one time so close that all I could do was take a passing hip shot but luck was in their favour ...

A tough week of moose hunting as the logging is full bore around my best moose spots. Last day, last hour of my LEH I pulled it off with a moose down. On the drive out complaining to my nephew about the tough time I had, he had to remind me that a moose and two wolves in a week is apretty good week. The kid has a point, I figured with the amount of wolves I kill the moose gods would be alittle nicer.
