Heading up to Tunkwa middle of next week for a week of whitey and muley hunting. Wondering how much snow is in the higher elevations to date? Has anyone been up there recently and had success? We like to get well off the roads and hike up mountains as we are not road hunters. Hoping for some fresh snow!!!

Forgot to also ask whether or not the rut has started up there? For either white tails or muleys. Hoping colder weather has triggered things.

Was just up there this last weekend, about 6 inches of snow near the Surrey lake summit. Saw a lot of fresh sign and a few mulie doe, but not much else... I needed more time .

Was up top this evening , 8-10 inches of snow. Supposed to get some snow Friday, a cm tonight with some cold weather on the weekend if you call -8 cold. Rut activity just starting to pick up.

Great to hear. We were up there last year at this time. We ended up with one 4 point and a missed whitey. Going a few days later to hopefully capitalize on the rut in full swing. Hopefully some more snow as well. Fresh snow everyday would be ideal!!!

Was up there on Nov 4-5 for a quick 2 day hunt.
Rut is definitely on.
Deer are active, but hard to find.
Found a massive fresh rub (just destroyed a smaller 3 inch thick pine tree) with deer tracks around in the snow. Lots of urine.
Fresh bed in the area as well. Sat on a willow filled gully, just west of Tunkwa lake just off the pipe line, and had 1 buck (thick...thick neck ) paired up with 3 does come in, but he was 1 point short (3x2)
Other than that near the top of the hills around the lake....( we had about 10" of fresh snow at the top).
Saw 3 cow moose - no bulls.
Good luck....have patience, after covering alot of ground....if I had to do it over again, I would just sit on the pipe line.
We had mulitple areas that fresh tracks were over out quad tracks within a few hours....very high activity area.

No bucks left up there, Bushy and Al hammered them all :)
