Another Region 3 Whitey Down

Tried to no avail to tag a whitey doe in Oct. Had seen several flags but couldn't seal the deal. Yesterday I had this guy track me, nose to the ground following my trail. I guess he wanted to go for a ride in my backpack. Not the biggest rack but he had a hefty body to him. The pack was pretty darn heavy for the km hike back to the truck.

No doe scent. Was just burping as I walked along as the snow was super crunchy.

I am #2 with no doe in October....saw 6 on the day after it closed.

I was in on one doe and her twin fawns and had her bust me on 3 seperate occasions. All 3 times i knew exactly where She was going to be and I crept slowly in like Elmer Fudd and she peged me each time. I should have just walked boldly in there making a lot of noise because that seems to work better for me. The conditions on Monday were extremely noisy and I just walked normally burping as I walked. I sat down to watch a small opening and hadn't been there for 2 minutes when I heard this buck noisily walking behind me. Note to self, whitetails are only hard when I try to be stealthy.

Nice buck, MUCH bigger than any of the several region 8 wt bucks I've taken. He's a beauty that's for sure. Didn't know region 3 was THAT good for wt, I guess I shrugged it off too many times this yr, I'll have to hit it quick here.

Saw another whitey buck today that allowed me to just walk right up on it. The camera was in my pack and he bailed when I tried to get it out of the pack. Ran a short distance so I burped at him and stopped him. Makes me wonder where the notion that these critters are hard to hunt comes from. I hope the proposal for 2 whitetails either sex goes through for next season. Wish they would extend the doe season into Nov. Saw 5 whitey does yesterday. All of which let me walk right up on them. Seems they are a little on the smarter side in Oct. I also saw one stott away from me yesterday. Didn't flag. But there was no denying it was a whitetail tail and no denying it was indeed stotting.
