Not much of a story here. Was with my son, Buckmeister Jr, and we had been hunting since first light. Seen about 5 does and the rear end of a fleeing buck early on. Later, we had been walking an area with lots of beds and feed and sign, but seeing no deer. We had just stopped to discuss our next plan of attack and had decided to go over and walk a certain ridge. 70 yards later we see this guy in front of us. He quickly disappeared behind some brush. We walked up to where we saw him standing and we started following his track. I spotted him briefly for a few seconds and was just raising my rifle when he moved off again through some trees. My son and I spread out a bit, 50 feet or so, I walked straight and my son angled off to the right. I then see my boy raise his rifle, then he lowers and takes a few steps to his right, drops to one knee and lines up for a shot. I couldn't see the buck, but my son had a great broadside shot on him at around 40 yards. One shot from his 30-06 dropped the buck in his tracks.

This is my sons 2nd mulie, his 3rd deer, and 5th ever big game animal. No green score yet, but I will post here in this original post when we get that done. Outside overall width is 30 3/4" long. Old buck with greying muzzle and high bridge nose. Tine count is 7x8 but he also had a few more stickers that were less then an inch that couldn't make it in the count.

Unofficial GREEN SCORE: GROSS 207 7/8
NET 191 4/8

Yep, he doesn't own any camo and I just have a simple camo jacket. Like someone said on another thread a few days ago, camo is a fad right now.

Lol, the fact is the boy has more money than his old man, and he is a very careful spender, but he is considering having a mount done. At the very least a Euro will be done.

Very nice, be tough for him to top that.

What region was that from?

Buckmeister
11-13-2013, 12:39 AM
Ok, I just put up the unofficial green scores in my original first post. It's the first time for me trying to score a rack, so an official scorer may see a few things differently, maybe, maybe not. For instance, G2 on the right side I counted as being the shorter point that looks more like a sticker, but it is in the correct spot for being a G2 so I counted it as such.

kennyj
11-13-2013, 06:54 AM
A heads up Buck. If a rack only has a G3 on one side, the G2 on that side will be the one that matches the other side the best.( the longest tine in this case). Then the shorter back tine will be the deduction. I hope I explained that OK ?

That's what I was wondering about. In that case the net score on this buck will be lower still. But I think the gross will still get over 200". I tried a calculation that way but it was confusing without any assistance. In the end it's still an awesome buck. Any deer that get close to or exceeds 200" in gross or net is a bucket list buck in my books.

Upon closer inspection im going to say that is one ripe old buck , he could easily be 8 years old ... Pretty sure that buck has done some serious reverting. That is something very special right there !

The way I see it, the sticker on the right is a sticker. The G2s are long and even and the back tine on the left is a deduction. Should score more that way. Not that it matters. Tremendous buck regardless of score. Trophy of a lifetime for sure.
