Stalked a pack of wolves today, cut the distance to 150 yards and smoked the biggest and missed the two follow up shot. Man is it tough getting them on the run.
A very large male, about 120lbs full of moose meat.

Sweet good on you! Years back in 7-08 when there was trees we had a bad year for wolves. I had 2 packs come together and they came out single file and I shot until I only had 1 shell left as I had a Moose down. The same trip my brother did the same thing while they were below his tree stand in tall grass. Needless to say many a wolf was taken that trip they were huge and looked similar in colour to yours and various other colours black, grey etc! Nice work now go get another 20!

Gorgeaous specimen. I was in need of a hero, Thank you for doing your part.
I could use more Heroes!!!
Bag limit of 3 is not gonna save any heard unless everyone pitches in. I am hoping for NBL until the numbers are acceptable to save the specie

Great work! Its a shame these beautiful animals have become such a problem to the rest of the ecosystem.

Can some explain the hate on wolfs in the hunting community? Is it simply about the competition? How have these animals become such a problem to the rest of the ecosystem? i would think that if the ecosystem would not want them they would be gone. thanks.

I don't think someone has been in the interior much, wolves are everywhere. The past 2 weeks, atleast 60+% of the tracks i've seen has either been wolves or been a moose/deer etc with a wolf track nearby.

You, and you alone, may help bring the Moose numbers back to where they should be in Region 5!!! Seems up here the Wolves are moving back in, right behind the bloody Cat's! Excellent Shooting! And congrats on one real fine looking Wolf!

That's a good question stosto. What happens when wolves move in is an almost complete slaughter of other animals, and when the wildlife has been decimated they move on to cattle, sheep, dogs, cats, etc. They are very efficient killing machines and need to be kept in check. When I lived on the island and they reintroduced them there, the results were disasterous to the sheep farmers, and many others as well. Hope that explains it for you.[QUOTE=stosto;1412456]Can some explain the hate on wolfs in the hunting community? Is it simply about the competition? Not hate here, but I do "hate" to see them so numerous that other game species struggle. Just yesterday at work I found a fresh wolf kill.........a black bear. Not even the bears stand a chance when you get too many wolves. Hardly any moose or deer tracks, but packs of wolves on almost every road.:-|

thanks for that Phreddy. That description reminds me of sharks; they move to areas of food abundance till they exhaust them and move on again. As a new hunter i have some difficulties reading these the cold-ass replies directed at wolfs. Its hard to find to ethics and respect in them. But i know it's not all like that. Thanks again.

Glad to help. There's a spot in the CORE manual that talks about predators as well. The only problem today is that it has been allowed to go unchecked so many times that the game is in serious trouble when it tries to rebuild its numbers. I honestly fear for the young hunters of today being able to carry on the sport for much longer due to this mis-management. Hopefully my fears will prove unfounded, but I've probably only got about another 10-20 years before my sons will drive me out to a spot where I can find a good tree to lean against near a game trail and will drift off into the great hunting grounds. Either that or I'll die in bed..............................shot by my partners jealous 30 year old husband. lol
