Ok, details :)

Our trip started off a bit scary, couldn't find the old campsite we stayed at in 2007 drove right by it. That would have been around 1am Saturday morning, ended up driving up the mountain to far and got stuck, ever tried turning a truck and trailer 37 feet in length on a hill that is a single lane, not fun, avoid it. By 5am we got down, setup camp and had some breakfast pizza mmm.

Day1 Sat.

My buddy Earl seen a few bucks, 1 really nice fork, a smaller fork and some doe's. Myself and my other buddy Geoff seen some doe's and a few spikes. This being Earls first mulie trip he decided to pass on the larger fork for something bigger. Geoff is also a new and upcoming hunter who wanted to see what hunting is all about, so he asked to join us on our trip.

Day2 Sun

Geoff and I same thing small spikes 3 small forkes and some doe's
Earl nothing

Day3 Monday
Geoff and I took my quad into a new area and found a nice open area to hopefully spot and stock something, I parked the quad and we got on top of a little hill on the side of the road. We started looking around, and Geoff gets excited ( Got one! ) he says, so I went over to him and he pointed to where he was looking. Yep, that is a nice big deer, between 5-600 yards away, I do alot of long range shooting, but haven't made a shot like that with my hunting rifle in 3 years, so I didn't want to take the chance of missing or wounding the deer, so set off with my radio and rifle to go after him. As I was making my way there the sun was coming up right in my face, not helping :( I tried to get a hold of Geoff on the radio, but no response? hmm so kept going where I had last seen the buck, tried again to reach Geoff on the radio, still no response, turned out he didn't turn up the volume, lesson learned lol. So I found a spot to build a blind so we could have another chance on this buck later in the week.

Earl seen nothing.

Tues-Thursday were all about the same for Geoff and I, seen small bucks and doe's. And poor Earl still nothing and wishing he shot the big fork on the first day

Friday morning Geoff and I headed back to the blind we built, I put my backpack down on the ground and my little seat cushion down, took a seat and had a look to see if our buck from Monday was in the same spot, nope, not there. So I looked across to see if Earl was getting into his spot, didn't see him so started looking down the tree line and seen this guy, all I said was big deer lol Geoff was like where, I pointed and he was on him fast lol. I looked at him for a bit, he was quartering away from me so didn't have a lot of choices for a shot. He was 244 yards away 1 shot just below the spine, unfortunately I hit the tenderloin :( but he went down hard and fast.

As we all know, now the work starts, Managed to get the quad within 100 yards or so. The 3 of us dragged him the rest of the way. We went back to camp, got a meat pole up and got him hanging :) Poor Earl, still no sighting of a deer for 5 days was giving up, Geoff and I said no way, So Geoff went out with Earl and I stayed in camp to cut more firewood and organize my gear. At 3:30 I hear Geoff on my radio brown is down, Sweet, Earl got his first mulie and a nice one too 4x4..

We all had a great time and learned lots and I think Geoff is hooked now :)

Thanks for the story, good to hear you folks are seeing a few deer. Better put a wpt on that campsite.... backing down with a trailer could spoil a hunt real easy ! Nice buck !!

Well, I forgot to take the GPS co-ordinates, so I guess I will have to do that next time I go up there. If you use Google Maps look up Notellie Creek, look at it and find the Y in the creek olong the road. From there drive 4.5 km and park on the right hand side of the road, you will see a trail on the right, walk that trail 750 yards and look to your left and you should see the blind we built. It is a great spot, Good luck and happy hunting :)

Thanks

That was the scary part of the trip, we couldn't back down, there were drainage cross ditches that I went through that could not be done backwards. I had to either unload the entire trailer and try and turn it around, or keep it on the truck and turn around, so we backed the trailer off the bank on the left side of the road, got the truck pointing down hill, ended up in the ditch on the other side of the road with a camper on my 1 ton Dodge with a 6" lift, talk about top heavy in a ditch :( Insert major heart rate here lol After a couple hours of digging, rigging and thinking we got the truck back on the road

Lol very true,
I already let him know that it is not like this every year, so he is prepared for next year. He has seen my other one I have on the wall at home that I got in 2004 and knows It can take time or even a lifetime to get a nice mature buck.
