2013 Mule harvest

Mid October hunt. I hiked up early in the am,in the dark to get into the zone and settled into my ground blind. Beautiful sunrise that morning. Spotted this guy about 8 am, I did not need binoculars to see the rack. I looked through them away, dropped them quickly . heart was pounding. I ranged him at 243 yrds. I clicked my leupold vx-3 cds to 250yrds. He stopped for a brief moment,then he started to walk a couple steps , then stopped. I had to act quick and hold my composure also. I let one shot go out of 30-06 180 gr go. He jumped and bounded away out of sight. No chance for another shot. I sat there and thought to myself, that i may have missed him. I damn near cried, as this was the biggest buck i've seen and had a chance to get! Well i sat there and waited a few moments. Well i had to go look and see if i could find blood or anything. I hiked up to the spot where he was and set my pack down where he was standing. I was looking further up the hill expecting to see him running away, or wounded or just gone. I looked to my left about 20 yrds , and low and behold there he was expired! I walked up to him and was amazed on the size of his rack and the size of him. yippee. I had cell phone reception so i sent a few pics out to my hunting buddies, it just happened the two of them were just one hour away , and offered to come help me drag this guy out. it was a long 700 yrd drag, but it was worth it, as he will be hanging on my wall.http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/DSC00772.jpg http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/Dale_mule.jpg

We actually kept the front shoulder high off the ground all the way down:) I made sure of that . Hide was fine:)
