Well I decided to goat hunt this year and only had 3 days off work to get it done. I called my best buddy and said "let's get a goat I have November 3,4,5 off" he said ok so we were off. We took a boat across lake Revelstoke and hiked into a valley. We got camp set up and started glassing. Found goats at last light. Woke up to -15 and clear blue skies, perfect
other than our 5 gallon water bag froze solid and broke. Spotted the goats we saw the evening before, they weren't in a good spot to access them so we kept glassing. Spotted a nice billy at 9am and made our move. 1130 we were in range, no goat. Noon we look again and see the goat right where we were looking. Laid my pack on a rock and got it set up for my
rest, ranged him at 335 yds and uphill so I held for 300 and touched the trigger on my Browning 325WSM and he was dead on his feet. He was still on his feet so I anchored him again and he did a goat dive down a small rock bluff and he was up again! These things can carry lead my 3rd shot I aimed a bit higher and hit him in the spine. I didn't need to shoot the 2nd or 3rd shot but if he fell either way off the rock he was on I'd be looking for pieces of a goat. We got over to him and didn't move him an inch for pics. He is a nice mature Billy and has the top inch of his right horn busted off at 8.5 inches. I couldn't be happier with him we aged him at 10.5 yrs, life sized caped him and boned him out and by 4 we were back in camp having a celebratory cocktail. Tuesday morning we loaded our packs and started walking. A few hours and a few litres of sweat and we were back at the boat. We weighed our packs and they were 120lbs. My legs still hurt.
Ill post pics tonight. What a process to try to add pics I'll figure it out in the morning. I'm too tired
