Your household insurance should cover you. I know mine does.

Also check your credit card, some will cover lost or damaged luggage.

Don't count on any insurance from airline....read the fine print when it comes to baggage.

One way of increasing your odds of meeting your rifle on the other side is to get through security with plenty of time. I flew with air canada this year and my rifle made it through without incident. I did find it funny that they charge extra for a firearm but then just put it through the same old baggage claim. Don't skimp on the case.

As for insurance, i checked with my home insurance. I would imagine that insurance through the airline would be very expensive.

I got a pelican 1750 case. The best there is for cases. I'm worried they might loose it

It's the chance you take when you fly but actual lost rifles are very very rare...delayed...pretty common. Be certain to follow all the airline regulations regarding travelling with firearms/ammo and you should be fine. I've had mine temporarily lost in a large number of foreign countries and in Canada but they've always showed up in a day or two.

Thought you would have all the details from the airline by now.

It says the case must be locked and firearm trigger locked and unloaded

Again, best to check with the airline but I typically use a regular padlock. Your guns will inspected by security with you present so no need for them to open the case again.

Some airlines also require you to remove the bolt. I remove mine, wrap it in bubble wrap and tape it to the sling so it doesn't go missing.

Flying with firearms is the one time I go above and beyond the transport rules. I remove bolt, trigger lock and lock in the case, then I put my handloads in a plastic case with a label on it. One day I'll get around to making some pro looking labels as some airlines specify ammo to be packed in the manufacturers original package.

Fly WestJet to avoid the AC firearm tax.

I checked with westjet they allow the ammo to be in the same container as the firearm as long as its in its owm container
