Tanners in Vancouver

Anyone have a contact to get some deer hides tanned in the lower mainland ?? Any help would be appreciated

They haven't done it in a long time their machine is down and they said they aren't in a hurry to get it fixed.. I had to take mine to a place in Calgary to have them done and you need a export permit to take it out of BC too.. and this will cost you also.

There isn't a place in BC that I found and I looked hard.

Used to be a place in surrey down by the patullo bridge just in behind scott road.If I remember correctly they were Northwest tannery but its foggy{30 yrs ago}.I used to raise a few spring calfs every yr back in the early eighties and I took a couple of my steers skins in for tanning.

Maybe ask a local taxidermist. Don't they send bearskins and deer mounts out beforehand?

I checked in with them about four years back and they said that their machine was down. They must not make much on tanning wild hides.

Thanks for the info guys . Pacific leather offers an exchange on deer hides . I am looking to have them done with the fur on. I had one done a few years ago at North Surrey Tannery but they are gone. I took one in last year to Gander and he sent it out with his capes , very good job done on it, but it was expensive . Looks like I will have to take it there again.Thanks

There is a place in Kamloops Not sure of the name but taxidermists in Kamloops would be able to tell you

Do these guys do leather too? I think any tax will do one hair on but to get the leather I couldn't find a place in BC

I think it has something to do with the chemicals used in the process too. It's hard to dispose of them and might not make it not worth the bother when there is little money to be made
