20 Gauge Shotgun

Hello All

I was thinking of purchasing a 20 gauge shotgun for upland birds and the occasional duck gun. Right now i am pretty much decided on a Remington 870 express but i don't know whether to go for the 26 or the 28 inch barrel. Could you guys give me some input on this?

I spent the day up placer creek fsr today, one grouse and a lot of ground covered. Still a gorgeous day out.

About 20 years ago i needed a chicken gun, at the time Woolco had a 20 guage Baikal single shot for 99 bucks. I have taken hundreds of chickens with that thing over the years. Not always about price buddy :)

Go for the 28 inch,make sure you have mod choke tube,when shooting steel for ducks!
20 gauge is my favorite for grouse/

If you're just shooting ducks once in awhile, but using the 870 usually for upland birds, I'd go 26" barrel so it's handier in the bush...

I have older Ted Williams, perhaps 24" or even shorter, look short anyway. The first year I bought this shotgun I took black bear, deer and one grouse with it. And I shoot clays with it often, straight cylinder, no choke. I also installed (adapted) polymer folding stock, so it is light and portable. Probably not a very good set up for geese or ducks but excellent slug/shot combination for walks in a bush.

I have a 1945 Winchester Model 12 20 ga. Lots of fun with clays at the range. Plenty of fun with the grouse. Came with a Poly choke installed. Added bonus...The slam fire feature!
My son and I both agree, its our preference over the 1972 870 Wingmaster we also own.

I just bought a 20ga Franchi instinct o/u I took it to Alberta and I limited out on pheasants with it. its 5lbs super light but i think the 28" is a wise choice. I like the O/U for uplands but the 870 (which I have in 12 ga) is a great, solid duck gun. Super reliable I think the 870 is a good idea. super happy with both of them.
