Hey good morning HBC!

I got my coyote rig all set up, 223 shooting 55gr Vmax Lead. Does anyone have any first hand experience shooting wolves with this bullet? Would it be to soft? I know a harder bullet would be a better choice, just kinda a pain handling two different loads at once. I appreciate any input or experience with this load vs wolves. Thanks!

cheers!

If I saw a wolf and I had that load in my rifle, I'd be shooting! Maybe it's not ideal wolf load but it should work fine.

I'm not much of a bullet guy. Is a Vmax a hollow point?

Friend of mine loaned me a .204 to try out and included a box of hollow point shells. I killed 6 coyotes and one wolf with 7 shots. The wolf went about 70 yards and fell over. One entrance and two tiny exits.

I've had more run off using the wife's 243 than any. Prefer using my 300 WM (Speaks Once) and a bit of extra stitching.

I killed a wolf with 40 gr v-max out of my 223 and she ran about 40 yds, I still hunt predator with the same combo, love it

Have seen v-max 55's drop deer so it should be good enough.

Poor shot or poor bullet ?

Maybe I just don't like the gun. I'm not much of a target range shooter but most of what I shoot at gets hit. It just seems they don't fall down as often with the 243.

gcreek, the Vmax isent a hollow point no, the thing that I like about the Vmax is its not supost to exit on a coyote, so iv herd, I'm in it for the fur lol. All my wolves so far iv shot with my 300 also, works great! But I won't have my 300 along when I'm coyote/wolf huntin.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm kinda nervouse about if a guy hits a wolf in the shoulder or a rib, if the bullet would still penetrate enough to do the job? This is my first year with the 223, use to have a 22-250 but it wrecked coyotes. With the animals you guys have taken, did you notice if the bullet hit bone on the way in? Did it exit?

I shot a wolf and five coyotes one winter with 223/55gr Nosler BT. Vmax should be similar, maybe a tad less penetration since it doesn't have a solid base bt. The 55gr Nosler would exit every time with a small hole

wolf was a 75 yard lung shot. Spun a few times and tipped over

Thanks for the help. I like whatever gun makes them dead!

If the fur is good I will stretch and sew. My 22-250 usually creates more damage than the 300.
