My buddy Lyle and I took off to Princeton for a few days.We arrived Sunday afternoon so we decided to go and scout out a few spots that we could hunt in the morning.I have never been to this area before but Lyle had so he had a few spots in mind.We checked out some nice area but saw no deer.Lyle asked me where I would like to hunt in the morning.I thought that I'd leave it up to him.So in the morning we drove to a spot where we had seen some sign the day before.Lyle got out at the bottom of the mountain and told me that he would meet me near the top later on in the day.I continued further up the road and found a spot to pull over.I then got out walked a ways up the road and into a slash.I did not want to venture too far away from the road as I did not know the area too well.I followed the timber edge up over a ridge.I sat down and figured that I was in a good place to watch the area.I then looked up the hill and thought wow that place looks better so off I went.I did this a few more times each time the next spot looked better than the one I was in.I then sat down near a fallen tree and thought to myself that if I got a shot the tree would make a great rest. Two minutes later I spotted a doe bedded down across the ravine.I saw more movement to her right,a deer bounced through the trees and was gone.I watched her for a while when I saw another deer move.I could see his rack.I put my gun up as he walked behind a large tree.I could see his rear end and he fed behind the tree.I moved my crosshairs to the other side of the tree and thought when he steps out I've got him.He never did.He walked away behind the tree and gave me no shot.I was so disappointed.Well atleast I saw a buck I thought to myself.Just then he walked back out to where the doe was bedded.I put the crosshairs on his front shoulder and boom, down he went. The 150 grain ttsx from my 7mm dropped him in his tracks.I was stoked.I waited a while before I took off across the ravine to see my buck.Ten minutes seemed like an hour so off I went. When I got to the deer,I thought wow what a deer, and WOW what a long ways away from the road I am.Lyle ended up driving the quad up through the slash and two stands of timber and across a ravine to get the deer.I still don't know how he made it there but he did.We had to cut the deer in half to fit it on the bike.It was quite a job getting that buck out but well worth the work.I'm still smiling as its my largest deer to date.
