Took the boy out looking for blacktail, too sunny and warm but he got the biggest grouse I have ever seen

Surely the bird will taste great. I have yet to have one that didn't! The last one I recall eating was at least that big and may well have been older. Delicious!

That is simply a fantastic bird, congratulations. Surely an excellent candidate for a permanent place in your home, in taxidermy form.

All the best for the rest of the Blacktail season, too!

That's a whopper! Big ol turkey blue! I've only ever seen a few like that in the timber in the Ashnola. Dice em up and shaken bake em! I'd like to get one like that mounted one day. Good job.

Far from a tracker or sidekick, a first gen Pajero, or dodge lovers may call it a raider. I call it a tank, we went up some roads that had us hesitate turning around a few times but we couldn't lol.

I would say a Blue for sure, and I would say old, slow baked it, although tasty it was chewy. I should have sent it to the Taxidermy. My son kept the claws, and back feathers. I really need to learn to pluck and keep em whole. I only too the breasts, but the legs were like KFC size drum sticks

I saw over a hundred in the south cariboo last week. We shot a few of the larger birds, but only one--though still smaller--compared to that! I did see a monster in region 2 back in September--only one for the region this year--while doing some 4x4ing, but did not get a chance at it. Amazing bird... any bigger you might need to use a winch... make sure the truck is on a flat surface. Great job!!!

Don't take me wrong but I am curious how people get their CORE and are allowed to hunt when they cannot ID what they are shooting? How do you know if you even allowed to shoot it or what the bag limit is?

Some of us "grandfathered in" didn't have to take the core :-D .
But seriously nice bird ! I brought home a blue last year that was 2 1/2 lbs in the pot .... I roasted it like a chicken and it was delicious . There were much larger ones in the flock that flew before I could get a shot too !

There are some regions where the bag limit and seasons for blue, ruffed and spruce are different, sharptail grouse are even more limited (the male can be mistaken for a light Blue the female for a ruffed), I have seen sharptails in northern B.C. and in the Koots.

Nice! I love chicken hunting :) Biggest bird I ever bagged was also a Blue... they get the biggest in my experience. I just processed my possession limit into burger.... almost 10 lbs of ground bush chicken... looking forward to chicken burgers :)

I was gonna say from the first pic an XJ or Raider (they are pretty damn close to the same wagon)

those are great lil 4x4s ... if you can find a clean one they are easy to build and modify
