This is a hunt I guided....we were particularily lucky to accomplish due to the weather window..didn't quite fit thru yet when we needed better weather we got it....I have not guided for Goat much but am finding that the setting plays hard on a flatlanders mind..there are plenty of things that can go wrong and not much for support when...this is a very remote area and my hunters feel it....The approaches are difficult there being no developed trails. For me, at the risk of sounding philosophical, is the best part. This truly is an adventure... a hunter is going to have to earn this one.. no easy ride up the hill... And the weather it is even better.. you just got to get stuck in a mountain tent for 30 hours or so in order to say you hunted Mnt Goat in BC....it is a rule off passage !! The billy was a couple basins over from us he showed himself the first evening in but it was two days later before we could try for him because of weather...we made a big push to try for him the first break of weather..a small bowl of oatmeal should hold us for the day.
Billy was bedded like a big old muley there was no way to avoid his eyes..we aroused suspicions at 350 yards..set down there and let him forget which took about 30 minutes and after he settled my hunter was able to slip away and after and hour of careful stalking he had a 140 yard shot..Billy here if he went off the back it was going to be a very long detour cause it were not safe to follow him but the shot was perfect my hunter was able to break him down...I was praying and so was he.....what an amazing place to be and witness!!
