Things were looking rather bleak with opening day approaching and NO water in the marsh for a second year in a row. The corn had been cut early across the marsh and the Canadas weren't even around there anymore. What to do??? We considered trying the duck boat on Quesnell Lk. or in the Estuary but things didn't look hopeful there either so on Friday we made the plan to abandon the "Bubble" and try a farm about 10 min. from the ferry terminal. We got in early Sat, set up and waited. About 7:30 we heard the geese and they were on us dropping in to our spread like a squadron of fighters on a carrier deck. I have never seen it before here in B.C. The shooting was fast and furious for a little under an hour then it was over, all guns had limited out and we picked up and headed home with out bag. To be honest I was in shock, I never could have predicted the outcome and I'm not sure if I believe it still but it happened. A very different kind of opening for me to be sure but I'm still smiling. :-D

It was an awesome morning to be sure but now as Paul Harvey used to say is "The Rest Of The Story". It was deffinately a fun weekend but I was having a bit of fun here as well. I was deliberately vague and perhaps just a bit leading with the tale in order to pull a couple of friends chains( you know who you are) they bit and called wanting to know all about the snows on the island. LOL sorry guys but we are even now . Although I in no way "lied" I did with hold a bit of vital info lit the ferry terminal I spoke of being 10 min away from was actually the Tsawwassen terminal and the new "plan" was to join Fowl Language, and a few other friends old and new for the opener on Snows. The first mornings shoot went just about as described with 6 guns scoring 60 birds in about an hour. The second day was tougher the birds had been educated and we managed 33 birds for the day. As I said I have never seen anything like it here in B.C. it was awesome. A big thanks to Dale, Mark, Dennis and the rest of the crew for bringing me into the fold.
The "white board fence" are actually 1000s of snow geese, sorry for the quality but all I had to snap it with was a potato lol
