View Full Version : First Limit of the Season!

As the title says, today was a great day to be out there. I've been a little slow in getting out waterfowling with most of my spare time spent chasing moose and elk up here, but decided that today would be the day to get out. Even though the season opened up in early September (Region 7B), the is the first real effort I've put in this season.

It seemed that my partners were busy with work and family, but I decided to go out on my own anyways. Me and Angus (the dog) got an early start and what turned out to be a beautiful morning. Huge flocks of ducks were airborne by the time we reached the lake and we were still 45 minutes from legal shooting time. Setting out the dekes I noticed a thin layer of ice in some areas near the spread so I walked around a bit to break it up.

In an hour and a half I had my limit: 5 widgeon, a goldeneye, and two shovellers. I hung around for another hour trying to entice some of the geese flying around to come in, but no luck.

A good day all around. I even broke out a couple of the old school dekes and added them to the spread.

Looks like you guys had fun, I'm planning on spending some time on the water this fall for waterfowl as well. Congrats on your limit.

Tons of geese no doubt, and I'm still trying to get field access. But I have not seen a mallard yet. I'm still waiting for the big fat *******s to show up around here, so you guys down south could still be waiting a while.

Nice ducks man. If i didn't have to be at work today, thats exactly where I'd be too.

Hey Ken, I'm still working on the non-flyers. I've got some good leads on access and am following up on them this week.
