Should I get the eTrex 30 or the Oregon 450? The eTrex 30 is $30 more. Thanks for your advice.

all depends on what you use it for. i have a etrex 20, great little gps. i make a mark at the car, follow cougar tracks or deer tracks all day, and it takes me back to my car. it does a whole lots more but i dont need it for much else than getting me out of the woods. my only complaint is that the gps doesnt lock, as in screen lock while still on if its in a pocket with anything else it beeps and buttons get pressed by themselves wasting battery and irritating me. that would be the only thing i would look for in a gps in the future.

I have the Garmin 60csx and love it. But it is a few years old. I would look for today's equivalent. I think it`s the 72 series??

Whichever you choose, make sure that it is compatible with custom maps (backroads map book etc.).

I have the Montana 650 and I love it,,detail is great with BC backroad mapbook installed, and if your spending 450-500 why not go another 50-75. The touch screen is easy to use and the large screen is good for those of us over the 50 thresshold

These two units are $200-$220. I'd like to stay in this price range. Costco (no hassle return/exchange) has the Oregon 450 for $199, but the specs on etrex 30 are a bit better (memory, battery life). Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the touch screen on oregon. Its harder to see in the sunlight.
