    Talking Let's revisit shooting form...

    ...Stance or, feet placement

Everything stems from proper form - everything. Either good things or frustrating things.

Let's examine how you address the target. Firstly you must shoot from a stable platform. There is no "proper" way to place your feet, except to say that they should be about shoulder width apart for stability.

To see how you line up, nock and arrow, close your eyes and draw the bow. Settle into your shooting form and then open your eyes - where is the bow pointed? Right at the target? If so - good.

If you're pointing either left or right then adjust your back foot (forward or backward) so that the bow comes back inline and points at the target (10-X). This should be the most natural and relaxed stance for you.
Having a relaxed stance will eliminate strain in either the lower back and/or the shoulders brought about as you unconsciously fight to pull the bow into line with the target.

    Inline with = Square stance.
    Back of = Open stance.
In front of = closed stance.

Practice getting into your relaxed stance every time you get set to shoot until you do it without thinking. Soon it will become a habit for you. A good habit.

On this strong base you will now be able to construct a stable, comfortable, and most important of all, a repeatable shooting form.

thanks for the tips, at the range today I concentrated on making sure I lined up on the targets with my eyes closed thus making my shots feel more natural and less twist due to the focus on having the right foot placement.
