trout fishing near Horsefly july 1-5

We will be heading to the horsefly area for a few days of camping and flyfishing next week, we plan to check out tisdall and crooked lake, what I am most curious about is the horsefly river?? I have heard great things but have no idea where to start, if someone can offer some tips or first hand knowledge that would be great!!

The tuff part might be getting to the river a lot of it runs threw private land. A buddy has property on the river and it used to be great fishing when the trout or salmon were spawning, some big Dollies, but I haven't fished it in years so don't know what it's like now.

River will be too high and youre too early for any good rainbow fishing. Stick to the lakes.

Will you have a canoe? We went down Mckay Creek in canoe one fall from the outlet of crooked lake. We were hunting but every pool we went into there were trout scurrying about. It's a long journey that serpentines from the put in at crooked lake to the pull out by the bridge and you'll need someone to take a vehicle to the pull out but it was a cool trip.

Not sure what the water will be like at this time of year but it is quite a distance. There were, when we were there, many places we needed to lift the canoe over logs.

Bring your lunch and a camera.
Rejuvenation: Sitting in the slash in sub-zero temperatures waiting for first light and hearing antlers clashing together. Oh man, life is good!

well we ended up not fishing the river but tried Forest, Dugan, green and crow lks, it was the same theme everywhere too stinking hot and fish not happy. we met a fellow that im sure all the locals will know, Wayne Johnson was his name and was excellent to talk too and a wealth on knowledge on the area
    moon over forest

found old bob johnsons camp on crow lake

the new rooftop tent on the FJ worked awesome, sets up in seconds , these are the way to go for touring around the back country
