Mounted up the new VX3 HD 4.5-14x40 ZL-CDS scope on my ultralight 280AI, seem a touch brighter and clearer than my VX3i, crosshairs seem to be a touch more definite as well......now to get it to the range and test it out.

It seems to be a touch brighter and clearer than the VX3i, I do think the reticle is a little sharper for sure, is it $160 better ???? the deer died just fine last year using the VX3i !!!!

I just saw some advertised on Cabelas web site. They are the 1 inch tube and no side focus(parallex adjustment). I own two of the ones you mention and really like them. I would definitely go with 30 mm tube and side focus, The CDS is good but does not have the range the VX5 have. I think you would be good to about 800 yds with the 3i CDS. I am sure the new VX3HD will be good, but keep in mind that HD is just a marketing gimmick. HD lenses are more expensive to manufacture and will make little to no difference when you look through one until your out past 800 yds. The only benefit to using HD is optically you get better pictures using the HD . This is part of the reason they are popular on spotting scopes.
