Well this winter and spring weather has been perfect for brooding waterfowl! I have been doing my fair share of poking around the bird nurseries to see what we have for numbers. Got to say i am impressed. Most geese have large groups of chicks and there seems two be distinct age groups of the chicks. Older ones that have new pin feathers about 1/2 the size of an adult and small grey fluff balls
looks like two complete different timelines
PS we have lots of birds for this season! Yippee!

I am up at Canim lake right now and if the mallards hatched as well as the mergansers around the resort here it is going to be a great season. The merganser has 10 little ones swimming and diving here. Almost every pothole along the hwy near 70 mile had ducks in them too.
Gone To The Dogs
Seen about 50-60 Canadas, adults and nearly fully fledged youngsters on the beach at Qualicum yesterday
