this is my fav of all my knives.
a katz moose knife with kraton handle.
it's one serious blade, thick and heavy.

my mistake, it's this one, without the serrated lower portion on the blade.

this is what I use the most though.
it fits the hand perfectly and holds an edge.
the handle can be pounded on also to get through bone, like an axe.

this is what I always have in my pocket year-round.
well, mostly hunting, fishing, and hiking, not when I go out to dinner.

    some others.
    Kershaw amphibian.

    Kershaw echo ken onion design.

I have more, but these are my most used.

    agree.
that combo had my eye for awhile.
I almost bought it a couple times.
does the locking system work well and hold up?
was always curious about just how durable it would be.

x2. Great Knives. I also use the SOG Blink. As close as you can get to a switchblade but still legal

I have to admit I use three of the knives of Alaska. Heavy, but I was able to get through skinning 1 elk, 9 deer in one year before the were needing attention.. The only not so much fun thing is they will rust. But will worth the hassle.

Decided to change my knives for this year. I bought a Havalon for fine work and a Helle Alden for the heavy work. Hopefully this combo will be all I need in the field.

Re: Fixed blades, what do you carry and use

Lots of excellent knives on display in this thread!

Like many folks I too enjoy knives and have had an interest in them for years. Like many I immediately recognized their usefulness as a child and hold dear their vital place in Human history.

I've had a few folders but have always preferred a good fixed blade to a folder for the most part. Similiarily I use saws in the field instead of axes if at all possible. Ironically said saws are often folders!

It's great to see alot of nice knives from many custom makers listed here. I enjoy their works, from the very famous such as Jay Fisher or the work of some who seem newer to the craft like Sage Blades ~ http://www.sageblades.com/ (Thought I'd share a link for those unfamiliar. I am not associated with Sage Blades in any way, nor does this constitute an advertisement. Simply posted the link as it may be of interest to some readers.)

Ultimately when it comes to field use blades I much prefer to keep things simple and enjoy the more affordable end of the scale. Mostly have gone with Mora type blades in the past but am into Cold Steel stuff like the Pendleton Lite Hunter; Roach Belly, Finn Bear and Canadian Belt Knife (just like a Russel yet with polypropylene handle). I find these very easy to work with/use and maintain. Effective in the field, nice for all around use and hold a very good edge for me. I feel as if these knives offer care free service.

I very much appreciate the effort of those of you have have shared pictures and stories of heirloom knives. A big part of the reason why I am into the affordable Cold Steel knives is that they are more easily replaced if needs be. I wish you all continued enjoyment and success with your special blades.
