hmmm there isn't an animal species in BC that has not been shot by a 30-06....a wonderful and often overlooked calibre...perfectly suitable for the one gun arsenal..

I have chosen the .270 for my deer, sheep, goat pronghorn sized game...when I went for a larger caliber weapon I hmmmed and hawwwwed..between two options the 375 and the .338 wm and went with the .338 win mag for bears and moose and elk...I bought the sako 85 and had Corlanes put a 3 piece custom muzzle brake on it and it is truly a treasured item to me...has just dropped bears, moose...and is the ideal caliber for grizzly and coastal browns here in BC..use 225 gr Barnes TSX...ideal combo....

Thread sort of morfed into 30-06 and what else. A sub 30 all rounder would be the 260 Rem and above 30 any of the mediums, but don't over look the 35 Whelen with a 250gr bullet at 2500+ fps same with 9.3's magnum power - standard recoil.

Smaller-6mm to 6.5's. larger-.338-.375's. if I go smaller it will be a .243 win, or a 260 rem. if I go larger than .30 cal it will be a 375hh, or a 375 Ruger. Moosin

If you're hunting elk, moose, and black bear, the 30.06 is perfect for the job!
If the bears you're thinking of hunting are grizzlies and kodiaks, then I'd get a Sako .370 Mag for them,
and use the 30.06 for the elk and moose. If you decide on another make, get a .375 H&H or .375 Ruger.

If its mostly going to be a elk gun and some longer shots might be in order try a 257 weatherby mag would be nice I know its not a sako or a 264 winmag if your into hand loading both perfect elk calibres jmo
