Thanks for posting this number. I found out that I won my draw for 5-02 just yesterday, and didn't know about this conflict until I went on HuntingBC. I called and left my information, phone number, draw number, etc. I hope they can provide me with some good info. I don't know what the aboriginal presence is like in the south Cariboo. But as far as I know my hunt is legal (nov1-15), and if I don't run into any trouble I intend to at least try to fill my first ever LEH.

The area of your draw shouldn't be affected by this conflict - but all of our abilities to hunt in the future may hang in the balance of how this all plays out. Read this thread start to finish. Educate yourself. Get involved in your local fish an game club.

Oh - and good luck on your hunt!

Re: No moose hunting in Area 5

This is a copy of the letter I sent to my MLA Kevin Falcon for Cloverdale/Surrey, also sent it to the Minister Of the Environment, the Province and the Williams Lake Tribune. The Williams Lake Tribune is going to publish it in their next issue in the letters to the editor as an open letter to my MLA and the Minister of the Environment.

    Mr.Falcon,
Iam writing this in regards to the Tl'etinqox-tin Band's intention toblockade the access roads and attempt to stop theLawfulHunting of Moosebynon-band members not accompanied by one of their own guides on Crownland in the Chicoltin.
Letme begin by saying that my family has hunted the Raven Lake area inexcess of 30 years. My father, myself, my cousins and now my son andnieces utilize the incredible resource that is the Chicoltin. Thearea we hunt belongs to us all, Canadians. The intention of theTl'etinqox-tin people to deny access to the areas is an infringementof my rights as a Canadian. The area isCrownLand belonging to us all,and the Moose are a resource that byLawfulLEH Hunting practicesareavailable to all that choose to practice and embrace the huntingtradition of this province. I was born in this country, in thisprovince, and am proud to be a native of British Columbia. I am proudto be Canadian.
Thecontents of the Tl'etinqox-tin Band's letter states that hunters willbe escorted fromCrownLand belonging to all of us,andreported to the TGO council. I ask what authority the TGO council hasto stop me and otherLawfulhuntersfromaccessingCrownLand, and what authority would they have to detain, stop or escort meanywhere? Would the RCMP not be there to stop them breaking the lawand violating my rights as a Canadian and resident of this province? How am I to be confident in my safety or my son’s safety in thisarea in the fall?
Ibelieve this issue is more than just a hunting one. It seems to myinterpretation that the Tsilhqot'in people intend to limit hunting toTsilhqot'inGuided Hunts only, therebymaking a profit on what are a violation of my rights as a Canadian, and a violation of the LAW.
Mytaxes pay for the upkeep of the resource that is the Chilcotin. I andmy family are responsible hunters. We celebrate the hunting traditionof this province every year, as a family, as Canadians and residentsof this province. What the Tl'etinqox-tin Band intends is wrong, weall have a right to the land, and a right to the resources itprovides.

I like that letter as well Wulfen, it really brings out the desire you have to keep BC open to hunting the region 5.
This is the type of letter that will bend people in your way of thinking.
It's personal, to the point and well written.
Jel .. A+ ( Very Good ) An important letter to be sent to the Ministry.

Good on you Wulfen for getting putting your view point out there. My only quibble would be the bits about being born in Canada, and your families 30 years of hunting in the Chilcotin. It shouldn't matter if you became a Canadian yesterday, and had never hunted this area. You should still expect equal treatment according to the applicable laws/regs. We can never out-trump the first nations when to comes to history in the area, so maybe it's better not to use it as an argument for access rights.

gwillim a heck of an observation and critique. I think your bang on about the history part but hey 30 years is a long time to live and love the land. Uncles and aunts and dads who all hunted awesome areas like Raven.
Moose hunting in the blood of all who wonder and wander through the forests and lakes of B.C.
Let's all tell our part in BC about our longing for living, and loving, the deer and moose habitat we hunt each season.
Jel .. That's the reason .. It's only hunting but we like it .. ok

For sure Jelvis. Thirty years is a long time to be in one place, in this day and age, the way people are moving around all the time. I'm just saying it's a weak card to play when the other fella has a 40,000 year card up his sleeve!

One question as I don't wanna sort through the "new garbage" in this post since I stopped reading it. Is there a petition in kamloops somewhere that I can sign?
