Youth Season Success and a Little Introduction

She's pretty much grown up on HBC.....mostly as a retriever and hunting companion. Her passion for the outdoors and animal knowledge is only matched by her ear-to-ear smiles.

She turned 10 in late November last year...a little too late to get her CORE done but she easily passed this spring with flying colors.

So with the youth season approaching we found ourselves heading into the hills to hopefully find her first buck.
We managed to find a few bucks the day before the opener and found one buck late in the evening that drew out att'n.

By 5am we were out of bed and quickly got ready to head back to the same area as we found the buck the evening before.
Just as we were getting ready to leave Calvin rolled into camp to give us a generous helping hand.

As we approached the area I looked back and caught the form of a nice buck feeding unaware of our presence. We bailed out and Jamie immediately asked how far it was. I quickly ranged the buck at 175 yards but said she wasn't comfortable shooting at that distance so we started making our way up the road just as Calvin was pulling up the rear and was trying to get our attention. He too had seen the buck, in fact, he had seen 2 different bucks.....a 4x4 and a 3x3. Calvin knew we had a view of the buck from further up the road and soon we were able to cut the distance to 106 yards.
With a good solid rest Jamie squeezed off a round from her 7mm-08 and the buck immediately jumped and kicked. Calvin said he saw the bullet impact a little behind the front shoulder and with the buck quartering away we were confident we would find the buck a short distance away.
After a short wait, Jamie picked up the blood trail and we soon found her buck just inside the timber's edge.

So, I would like to introduce a new member to HBC.....SnowshoeSniper (SsS)!

Congrats SsS! You have one proud Dad!

I'd like to thank Calvin for all his help and those who were involved to make our youth seasons in the southern half of the province. Those seasons really work!
