BCHFSJ, we hunt the same areas, all around FSJ. I saw you at the DU dinner the other night, ment to come introduce myself, lost track of time.

Seen a few 5pts earlier in Nov and the odd one is now starting to show up as they begin to roam, looking for love.

    Cheers

    Update......

Sat tuesday tape to tape, loooong day as most WT hunters know all to well.
I was pretty excited as monday had nonstop daytime activity with the 5 point passing thru numerous times.
It was 4:40 pm before I saw my first deer of the day after 9 1/2 hrs of nothing.

Several does started to trickle in .
4:50 the 5 point (I believe) came busting thru putting the run on the does.
I had to just after 5pm for legal shooting light so something had to happen quick.
The buck was trotting in and out not making for a decent shot considering the very low light.
I declined taking a poke as it really wasn't an ethical option.

Closed the window on the blind and waited for complete darkness before exiting as to have minimal impact on the deer.
    Tomorrow would be another day.

Last night found me in for an afternoon sit.
At 3:30 the first deer showed.......doe.
She hung around cautiously, always staring off in various directions every time she sensed a perceived threat.
They are always on high alert, such a cool animal.

She suddenly crouched a little staring into the pecker pole.
That is a tell tale sign of a suitor checking her out!

Put the 10x42 Ziess on the thick stuff ....I can see what looked like lower legs and feet. Nothing moved ..... few minutes later one of those legs moved.

    Buck!

    He's not the big 5.
Just a handsome 3 point admiring the doe yet hiding in the regen pecker pole.

I so enjoyed watching this affection from afar til dark.
Sure his day will come in another yr or two when he is bold and brash chasing does down at will.

Re: Some Big Whities For Ya...

I get a call from a new to hunting young friend last night.
His family has zero hunters yet he developed a passion in his twenties.....no mentors.

He was awesome with some yard and pool prep work at our place this summer running a bobcat and excavator with precision ....... he grew on me as he was just such a hard working and good kid.

3 yrs of hunting and no success......he was keen on getting his first animal despite investing so much time without a chance.
I said you are coming out with me tomorrow.
    He's in!!!

He picked me up at 5:45 this morning.

6:15 found me peg legging in with him.
    Sciatic BS is frustrating.

We discussed about the importance of stealth and not moving when deer stare at you in the blind ...... wait them out.
We sneak into the blind and begin to stare down the shooting lane, an image that never changes....like staring at a painting.

40 mins later here comes a deer .......BUCK!
I could see how excited he was as his eyes were like pie plates!
We waited for the buck to slow a bit and provide a decent shot.
    BOOM!!

    Buck jumped and bolted off.

I asked him if he was confident with his shot as it was about 125 yards.
    He said ......"totally".

We waited about 40 mins before we got out of the blind.
Wouldn't be the first time that another buck has showed shortly after one of his commrads has been shot.
    (yes selfish on my behalf)
    : )

His excitement during that 40 mins of waiting was infectious.
To be honest, I think I was more thrilled than him.
Man I love to see folks experience a passion fulfilled.

Here's the post video seconds after the shot....
