Two weeks ago we were out setting the cams for the upcoming season and stubled upon another shed. There was no question who's it was.

Still don't know if he survived the winter but if he did, he'll be pushing 12 years old. That's pretty good for a high hunting pressure area that's loaded with cats and the odd wolf now.
Never underestimate the survivability of a whitetail.

Well, Grandpa did indeed survive last winter. His body still looks good but his antlers have MAJORLY regressed.....up to the point that he gets a pass(not like he’ll ever make a mistake in daylight).

    Good luck My Friend

^^^^very cool...hard to fathom a WT buck making it 12+ years where there's 3+ months every year of any wt buck season...do you think he actually breeds/ruts? I read in Whitetail Advantage that in the USA where the studies were conducted, there is the odd mature buck that doesn't actually breed..weird eh..

Every year he disappears from about Nov 6-8th and doesn’t show back up until the first week of December. While the rut can be a time when other mature bucks can slip up, I believe Grandpa heads into some nasty spot to chase the ladies. If he was only about food and survival, he would keep coming in at night throughout November.
He was coming in a couple times each night until Nov 7th. He’s now back in his breeding sanctuary. At least that’s my theory on him.

That buck, in the video, is most definitely not your grampa buck. Bucks will regress but the bases and mass won’t drop in size that much. Almost always mass will increase with age and usually pt number and length will decrease but mass seldom.
