Headed up Wed afternoon for a sit.
Wind was less than ideal and sure enough at the witching hour I got busted with deer blowing at me from about 150 yards away.
I didn't pull cards on my way out as I didn't want to stink things up any more.
Couldn't help but notice someone had followed my footprints in, checked my spot out and unzipped my blind to look inside...... hmmmm.
I would be back up tomorrow

The drive up was showing lots of timber down and the wind was howling.
The conditions were less than ideal but at least the wind would not betray me in this set of circumstances.
I am sure that WT were on sensory overload with the squeaking timber and the odd tree coming down.
I settled into my blind and knew it was not great conditions but hey, it's the last day.

Thru the thick timber I picked some legs shuffling along then stop.
Could not make out a body or head.
Two mins later those legs started shuffling along again and out HE walked at 50 yards.
Dandy buck!
I settled the crossbow xhairs on his chest, came up a few inches and gently squeezed.
I could see the bolt fly on way to the target......all looked good.
The buck jumped and took off.
With a grin I organized things, loaded my pack and climbed out of the blind.

I looked for the bolt expecting to find a big ketchup stain near by.
The bolt was located but not where it should have been, it was where the buck was standing, not 10 or 15 feet past.
Yikes.
I tracked the deer a few hundred meters and not a drop off blood.
Going back to where the bolt was lying I lined things up back to where I shot from.
It was obvious I was way low and had shot into his feet.
I was at least 2 feet low from the aiming point ???
WTF?
I had a brace, was 100% comfortable with the shot yet I missed be a ridiculaous amount and on a dandy....fak.
At least I should have him and the shot on video from the cams set up.
I dropped my pack to grab batteries and replacement SD cards.
Boot tracks.
Someone had stolen the cards out of both cams.
I simply can't believe people.
This was not the end to my season I was hoping for nor, could have imagined 30 mins prior.
This area will be surrendered for next season and I will move on.
I simply refuse to hunt in an area when you have people like this sharking around.
I won't lose any sleep over the shot.
However, I will enjoy reflecting on seeing that stud walk out over and over in my mind.
There is something to be said for seeing a trophy buck let alone getting a chance.
I'm good with that.

And den...
The only advantage to a light rifle is it's weight, all other advantages go to the heavier rifle..
Ah man that's frustrating about the cams etc. I've given up on the cams unless I'm hunting there everyday, or the snow is enough to keep everyone out. Sad...
