Is your "human" smell not a deterrent? How soon were they on it after you went through?
I have a video of an extremely apprehensive mule deer approaching the salt luck even days after I had left the area ... which I assume was due to my still lingering scent
Great pics SS. Have you ever tried pounding in a post for the bucks to scrape? If there isn't a good branch hanging down this can be a good alternative from what I have read. Never tried it.

Interesting stuff! couple nice bucks in there
I hope to be posting a photo on this thread in the coming weeks!

I have never been a believer that the human scent is a deterrent for anything wildlife. While I was guiding I have done the piss around the animal, hang the clothes etc. and have had bears and wolverines on the animal the next morning. If they want it they will get it, no matter who has pissed, crapped or walked around the area. Maybe in high pressure areas the human scent might play into it, but I don't hunt in high pressure areas, so I don't worry about the scent thing. Hell my dog comes with me and pisses all over the place, mainly to piss off the coyotes, but I have had deer show up within an hour with no issues.
My bet is that the deer has noticed something out of whack and is tentative. I get that when I put up a new camera in a different location, the deer will be tentative at first as they notice something different but soon get used to it.
Cheers
