Hey hare_assassin,
Let me ask you something
Is your own sense of right and wrong causing an internal conflict, but you dare not let any of us know it?

1. Human over population
2. Government burden and overreach
If it's still kicking or doing the funky chicken or whatever, i say let your daughter finish it off with the second shot if need be. She has to learn and wont always have you by her side in all situations that require a second, finishing shot if it happens again.
Simple question turns into suggestions that his daughter is incompetent, will shoot his daughters deer and that everyone should only use single shots.
God bless the Intraweb!
Knowledgeable shooters agree- The 375 Ruger is the NEW KING of all 375 caliber cartridges. ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!
what about a guide outfitter chasing after a clients wounded animal and finishing the job as often happens.
I would say you would have difficulty explaining it to a CO. You stated in your example that your tags were filled but your out hunting with your daughter, you both have loaded firearms and you put finishing round in it.
I am not saying its right or wrong. With my daughters I would let them do the follow up. Why? Because it was their call to make the shot and know they need to learn from it. The deer could be dead in less than a minute. It could be spined. It could be hit hard but might have to follow the blood trail. Maybe it only appeared to be hit and it was a miss.
My opinion. Theres alot to learn in hunting once the shot has been taking. But the hunter is accountable for the shot.
If the situation happens to you it will be your choice what you do but just be prepared to accept the consequences. I myself wound't be doing a follow up shot. Too many people think its a poor shot if it doesn't drop at the shot. I instead would be paying close attention to the direction it ran and listening closely. Also trying to calm the shooter down so they are able to make a good second shot.
