    Can a mentor fire follow-up shot(s)?

I tried searching but didn't have any luck. Forgive me if this has been asked before.

Let's say my daughter (10) does the CORE and get's her own licence and tags.

And let's say she shoots a deer but doesn't quite knock it over and it starts to do a runner or it is doing the funky chicken, and her single-shot .243 makes for a slow reload.

Can I legally put bullet number 2, from my own rifle, in that animal to end things as quickly as possible?

Is it still her tag that gets cut, legally?

What if I filled my tag already? Am I not supposed to be hunting with her?

For the record, I am only interested in what the law says on this.

Legally you shouldn't be shooting at anything you don't have a tag for.

So, in that scenario, you risk losing the animal rather than "doing the right thing", in order to comply with the law.

Makes no sense, but glad to know the answer.

Ultimately, it means my daughter needs to be able to do the whole job herself, which is simply a matter of her being that much better trained/practiced. That's fine.

Or, I keep my tag until she fills hers in case of a situation like this. That way I can legally assist in the kill if necessary...

Somebody who is not confident, or doesn't have the tools to take the animal down with 1 shot, should probably not be shooting at it at all.
    Does that make sense?
Have her shoot it with a camera then.

You asked what the law says, not what the ethical answer is.

He didn't ask if his daughter was competent or not.
