Wheres all the elk in Dawson Creek?

Just spent the last 4 days in Dawson/Chetwynd/Tumbler and only saw 2 elk.. we were hunting on private property most of the time too. Where have they all gone??

Well they started the zone a thing to reduce the elk herd by 50%. Looks like it might be working, I got SFA as well.

the bigger bulls are now in post rut so they are hanging tight to reload on thier fat reserves, never venturing far to feed then hunkering down until they are hungry again. some of the younger bulls are still hanging with some of the cows and calfs but do to hunting season they have mostly become nocturnal. id be watching decent areas when the weather has a low pressure front comming in right at dusk for the best options

They are off the beaten track. Look for quiet prime feeding habitat where the bulls won't be disturbed. It could be very ugly terrain too where they won't bothered by predators.
