Is my grease going to eat my bow limbs?

    Hi folks,

Can I use black (Armco) molybdenum gun grease on my compound's limbs and limb bolts? I can't find the 'regular' grease and don't want to see some funky reaction between the grease and limbs eating my bow.

    Thanks and Cheers

Grease is grease - it lubricates the metal parts. It should not come in contact with your limbs at all....unless I'm missing something here?

Not sure why you'd put grease on limbs

By 'limb' I should have said 'the end of the limb that sits in the limb pocket around the bolt'. I guess it was just extra when I took it apart.

    Thanks gents

Untrue .... Most bow manufacturers use white lithium grease to lube their limb bolts ... Lithium and Moly grease are not compatible ... will eventully turn into a goey stinky hardend clump .....

Brad ... I certainly hope you wiped off .. all the white stuff ... before you coated the limb bolts in black stuff ... if you did that you will be fine .... I have seen many bearings fail because people just thought grease is grease and then they get cooked

and ya .. you will be fine so long as there is no cross contamination

Looks like I better tear it down again

    Thanks for the clarification Mike.

I've seen some bows that had a lot of extra grease (lithium or otherwise) globbed up outside of the bolt hole - too much used in the first place. Makes a bit of a mess around the limb pocket(s).

I only added a little dab of black moly grease onto the bolt threads but forgot to clean off the other white grease.
Knowing my luck with bows this week I best tear it down and dung it all out

At least I have learned to completely tear down and rebuild my bow!
    Cheers

Always a good thing to know how to do. A lot of guys can't even re-string their own bows.
