5 round mag in bolt action ok?

    Hey guys need some clarification.
3 hunters I know keep telling me max 3 round mags in bolt action for hunting.
Let me tell you, I read my LEH and regs every morning on the John.
I have not found any info regarding mag size and bolt action for hunting.
I've found info on shotgun mags but not bolt action rifles center fire.

I think you are allowed to use a 5 round mag.

    Can anyone clarify?

Rifle magazines can sometimes fail to function right when full though !
I normally hunt with 3 in mag and 1 in the spout ,as when full, rifles can fail to engage the case with the bolt !
I had spent many nights in the jungle looking for game, but this was the first time I had ever spent the night looking for a man eater.

No limits on BOLT ACTION CENTERFIRE. 303's have 10 round mags and are commonly used for hunting. There are even a few Centerfire Semi auto's that can hold more than 5 legally.

A7. As set out in Criminal Code Regulations, some large-capacity magazines are prohibited regardless of the class of firearm to which the magazines are attached. As a general rule, the maximum magazine capacity is:
    • 5 cartridges for most magazines designed for a semi-automatic centre-fire long gun; or
    • 10 cartridges for most handgun magazines
A large-capacity magazine is not prohibited if it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law. Acceptable ways to alter a magazine are set out in the regulations.
There is no limit to the magazine capacity for semi-automatic rim-fire long guns, or for other long guns that are not semi-automatics.

after looking through regs and wildlife act ,all i could find pertained to either pump or semi auto actions in which case, 1 in the pipe and 2 in the mag.bolt actions would be fine with 5 as per those regs

2 in the magazine rule is for shotguns using pellets. Can be pump, semi or bolt shotguns. When using slugs, there's no magazine limit.

Centerfire Bolt, Lever, Pump Rifles are different. No limits. 5 is not the max.
    -303's hold 10+1
    -30-30's hold 6+1

No, pump shotguns can hold as many as you can put in, unless you are migratory bird hunting. I just put a mag extension on my Benelli pump and can now hold 7 in the mag and one in the chamber. If I go duck hunting then I have to plug it. Bolt action rifles have no limit, just semi's.
